2028s: How to Prepare & Take Advantage of June 15th

June 15th Isn’t Just Another Date

June 15th is when recruiting starts to speed up.

College coaches can begin direct communication with 2028 recruits — and the athletes who are prepared before that day are the ones who separate themselves immediately.

Here’s how to make sure you’re not playing catch-up.

🎥 Have Your Film Ready

Your highlight film is your first impression — and in most cases, your best chance to grab a coach’s attention.

Your film should include:

2–4 minutes max

(Coaches are not watching 30-minute tapes just to find your highlights. If a coach is interested, they’ll ask for more game film.)

Best plays first — the first 20–30 seconds matter most

  • Position-specific skills

  • Full-speed game reps

  • Your info at the beginning — name, position, height, weight, school, and class

What separates top prospects:

Impact plays — not just participation

Effort and motor on every clip

Versatility — show multiple ways you can help a program

🚨 Reality If your film isn’t ready by June 15th, coaches may move on to someone whose film is.

📋 Have Your Recruiting Profile Ready

Coaches don’t recruit “just film” — they recruit complete athletes.

Your recruiting profile should include:

  • Measurable — height, weight, verified stats

  • GPA and test scores - have GPAs & transcripts ready

  • Highlight film link - clean & edited reel of you top plays

  • Contact info — phone and email

  • Social media links — clean and professional

Your profile should be easy to share and easy for coaches to review.

💡 Think of it like your recruiting resume and portfolio combined. If a coach clicks your name, everything they need should already be there.

🎓 Updated Grades

Coaches recruit students first, athletes second.

Before June 15th, make sure you:

  • Know your GPA

  • Understand your core classes

  • Are ready to answer academic questions

  • Have updated academic information on your profile

Why this matters:

Coaches filter prospects quickly based on academics. A strong GPA can separate you instantly, while bad or unknown academics can limit your opportunities.

🚨 Truth:

Great film + bad grades = limited options

Great film + strong grades = more opportunities

📲 Communication Plan

June 15th opens the door for direct communication.

If a coach reaches out, you need to be ready to respond professionally.

You should have:

  • A professional response ready

  • Confidence talking about yourself

  • An understanding of what you want in a program

  • Questions prepared for coaches

Coaches expect:

  • Quick responses

  • Respectful tone

  • Clear interest

  • Professional communication

A simple response structure:

  • Thank them

  • Introduce yourself

  • Express interest

  • Ask a question

Example DM:

“Hey Coach _____,

My name is _____, and I wanted to formally introduce myself to you and your program.

I’m a Class of 2028 QB from Laney High School in North Carolina. I really like what you’re building at _____ University, and I would love the opportunity to be a part of it one day.

I just wanted to send a quick intro and share my film below.

Please feel free to let me know what you think, and keep me posted on any camps, visits, or other ways I can connect with your program.

Thank you, and have a great day!

[Your Name]”

Final Message for 2028s

You don’t want to be:

❌ Editing film last minute

❌ Fixing your profile late

❌ Scrambling to update your grades

❌ Unsure how to respond to coaches

You want to be the athlete who is:

✅ Organized

✅ Visible

✅ Prepared

✅ Ready when opportunity hits

Because when June 15th comes…

Opportunities don’t wait.

If you’re a high school student-athlete in the Class of 2027, June 15th is a critical date in your recruiting journey. For Division I programs, it's the first day coaches can initiate direct contact with you — including calls, emails, texts, and DMs. For Division II programs, while electronic communication is allowed earlier, June 15th marks the first day in-person recruiting conversations can begin.
