Ivy League cancels men's and women's basketball conference tournaments

The Ivy League has canceled the men's and women's basketball tournaments that were slated for March as a result of coronavirus precautions.

The league issued a statement that read: "The decision has been made in accordance with the guidance of public health and medical professionals to discourage and limit large gatherings on campuses in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation."

The tournaments were supposed to be held at Lavietes Pavilion in Boston. The Ivy League's regular-season champions -- Yale for men's basketball and Princeton for women's basketball -- will receive automatic bids to the NCAA tournament. The league previously had rewarded automatic bids to regular-season champions though the 2015-16 season before becoming the last major conference to determine it NCAA tournament representative in a conference tournament.
